Starting w/ left mag only

While reading the "Starting Engine" section in the POH of my recently purchased 1966 235, I came across the line that says to start using the left mag only. After startup switch over to both mags.

I have never been instructed to do this before. Does anyone out there follow this procedure? Does anyone know the reasoning behind it?
