Starting
Greetings.
I own a 1974 p28B in Australia and have just returned from an 1800 nm round trip to central Australia(actually to view the camel races at Bedourie). The aircraft performed consistently and well except for one persistent problem. Starting hot or cold. I follow the manual recommnedations but struggle every time. The LAME has checked everything and claims "it is the nature of the beast" and requires development of technique!!
Typically this manifests itself as a "hang" on pressing the starter followed by a series of struggling turns with often several minutes of this before starting. In cold conditions (around 32) it struggled to start at all. If anyone has a good guide to starting hot and cold, I would be most appreciative.
Otherwise terrific aircraft. I ran the whole time at around 6500 to 7500 at 65% settings - 19 to 20.5 " MP and 2300 - 2400 RPM
Regards to all
