Factory EGT gauge

My factory egt gauge is getting flakey. It is requiring adjustment to the pot on the rear of the gauge at least once every two months for the last year. This is a simple adjustment to bring it back but I can't believe this is normal. My A&P tells me this gauge isn't required in an regularly aspirated engine and since I have a EDM 700 I was sort of putting up with its behavior. Anyone been through this scenario?
